Use spaced repetition instead of cramming

Cramming feels productive because the material is fresh while you study. The problem shows up two days later, when most of it is gone. Spaced repetition fights the forgetting curve by scheduling reviews at widening intervals, so you revisit each fact just as you are about to lose it.

A simple schedule works well: review new material after 1 day, then 3 days, then 7 days, then 14 days, then 30 days. Each time you recall it correctly, the clock resets and the next review moves further out. Flashcard apps automate this, but an index-card box with date-labeled dividers does the same job for free. Learners who switch from cramming to spaced review commonly retain two to three times more a month later for the same total study time.

Pair spacing with active recall for the biggest gain of all. Instead of rereading your notes, close them and try to retrieve the answer from memory first, then check.
